SK hynix is part of the concentrated memory-supplier group benefiting from the AI-driven HBM shortage. Unlike standard DRAM and NAND, HBM is presented as technically complex, more difficult to substitute and associated with higher margins.
Memory remains cyclical because factories require roughly two to three years to build and capacity arrives in large blocks. Demand can also be overstated by precautionary orders, which historically later become excess inventory and price pressure.
The current cycle may have a higher floor than earlier cycles because the three leading suppliers have recent experience of severe losses, are described as more disciplined with investment, benefit from long-term contracts and have a better product mix through HBM.
The group remains exposed to hyperscaler investment budgets, possible order cancellations or renegotiations, accelerated capacity additions and competition from China’s CXMT. A slowdown by even one major AI spender could quickly affect memory prices and share prices.
The source argues that investors should not rely on currently strong earnings or low-looking multiples: memory shares historically turn before earnings do. Although the present supply-demand gap is described as historically large, the slowing rate of price increases is an early warning signal.
Shared company-group thesis: SK hynix is named as one of the three major memory suppliers, and the shared current-cycle and valuation reasoning is expressly applied to that group.

The speaker is strongly bullish on the sector over 20 years because memory is viewed as essential to computing infrastructure and HBM can provide greater differentiation and profitability. The view is qualified by the expectation of repeated intervening cycles.
